We understand that to be successful Sixth Formers need to be supported emotionally as well as academically. At Bedford Modern School our pastoral system in the Sixth Form has been designed to support you.
The Director of Sixth Form and Senior Tutors
Our Sixth Form is led by the Director of Sixth Form responsible for strategic matters, whilst the Senior Tutors are responsible for the day to day life of the Sixth Form. Pastoral and academic concerns are normally referred to the Senior Tutor and occasionally through to the Director of Sixth Form for more serious issues.
Our Tutor System
Althougth we are a large Sixth Form our tutor groups are small to ensure you can receive greater individual attention. In addition tutor groups are attached to a Senior Tutor (Head of Year). The Senior Tutor is an experienced member of the team who can provide you with additional help and support for both academic and pastoral matters. Each Senior Tutor looks after five groups, a total of approximately 75 Y12 and Y13 students.
We believe our unique structure gives you all the benefits of a large Sixth Form with the pastoral care and attention to detail you would expect from a smaller one.
Learning Mentors
Our Learning Mentors work in the Wilden Room and provide additional one to one academic mentoring and support that focuses on building confidence and learning important time management strategies to help reduce the stress of A level study.
Counsellors
All students have access to counselling through the school's medical service and in addition to this for more minor matters our tutors, Senior Tutors and Director of Sixth Form have a wealth of experience in handling the problems that are common to this age group.
