Life in the Sixth Form at BMS is very different. We recognise that as a young adult you have both rights and responsibilities. We adopt a flexible approach towards Sixth Formers treating you as adults and allowing you freedom to come and go off site as and when you please - provided you do not have any timetabled commitments.
Our Sixth Form Centre is housed in the Rutherford Building and contains an area for relaxing Sky Television. In addiiton we have a study centre with 60 networked PCs offering a place to work in a collaborative atmosphere as well as being a place to relax during break and lunchtime. There is also a Sixth Form Cafe housed downstairs in the refectory which is open from 8.00am.
The Sixth Form has an active Council and Sixth Form Social Committee. The former look after the interests of the Sixth Form and put forward proposals to the Sixth Form Management team for their consideration. The Sixth Form Social Committee organises a number of events during the course of the year to help Sixth Formers settle in and get to know each other. Their role is crucial to creating an atmosphere which ensures differences between the year groups are broken down and that genuine friendships flourish - just like University.
The Social Committee is responsible for organising the Welcome Evenings at the beginning of the Autumn Term. The Head's Team - Head Boy & Girl and their Deputies are responsible for assisting with the organisation of the final Leavers Day for Y13.
Our aim is to ensure that you contribute as much as possible to all aspects of the life of the school and that during your time here you will learn how to balance working hard with playing hard so that you arrive at University and hit the ground running.
