Ten reasons why should you join the Sixth Form at Bedford Modern School:
1. Flexibility. Our broad and flexible curriculum, offering over 28 different subjects at A level, means we can accomodate your
choices at A level.
2. Opportunity - Our size and diversity means that we can offer you a broad range of curricular, co-curricular and leadership
opportunities.
3. Academic success we average over 70% A-B and 85% A-C at A level.
4. Individual Support - althougth we are a large Sixth Form we remain focused on the needs of the individual and our pastoral
model gives you the personal attention you would expect from a small Sixth Form but wih all the benefits of a larger one.
5. The Rutherford Centre - will be home for two years and our dedicated staff, Learning Mentors and Sixth Form
PA are on hand to provide additional support and assistance over and above that provided by your tutor and Senior Tutor.
The Centre provides a University style atmosphere in which to work and relax, with 60 networked PC's, dedicated Careers
Library and Cafe.
6. Expectations - We expect you to work hard but we also encourage you to learn how to balance hard work with play. We have
a vibrant and active social life with various opportunities to be involved in fund raising activities, music, drama and sport as well
as film nights and the annual Sixth Form Ball. The Sixth Form offers a wealth of extra-curriular opportunities and we encourage
you to develop new clubs as well.
7. University Advice - As part of our commitment to your future we have created a well developed University advice programme
and nearly 60% of our students have gone to Russell Group Universities. We have also sent a number of students to Oxbridge.
8. Preparation for University. Time and again the parents of students who have transferred here compliment us on how well
our ethos and culture have helped to prepare their son/daughter for the transition to University.
9. It's fun! It may sound silly but we actually believe that school should be an enjoyable experience.
10. We put you first. From conversations about options, to the tutor group you are with, Sixth Form council, through to the one to
one support.
